I had a similar incident happen using SQL provider.  I search for a poll usercontrol online in an article by 4guysfromRolla(?).  http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/082907-1.aspx .  This article explains how to create a poll control using c# and vs.  I adopted this control to my implementation of BlogEngine.net and it worked fine using it on the site.Master page for the theme I am using.
A couple of caviats: 1. You must implement the control with the dropdown list as provided in the sample web ap.  You must add the pollSqlConnection to the web.config for BlogEngine.  You should also add the admin files to add and edit polls.  Make sure you add the code for the dropdown list to the site.master.cs file as provided on the sample web.  The Poll usercontrol itself (poll.ascx) must exist in the main directly to work properly.  I have only been able to make this work with SQL, and had to create the three tables necessary to make the poll work through sqlmanagement studio and the sample db provided.  Works great, and provides a way to use more than one poll at a time on your site.
